The original Spanish text is lost. An Italian translation by G. B. Ramusio was published in his "Terzo volvme delle navigationi et viaggi ... Venetia, 1556." It was translated from the Italian into Spanish by Joaquin García Icazbalceta, and published in his "Coleccion de documentos para la historia de Mexico," v. 1, Mexico, 1858. The present English translation is from this Spanish text. cf. Introd., p. 11-13.
